| Review of Scriporama auction of 18/10/03 | ||||||
| In the unique setting of "Van derValk hotel Breukelen" (a hotel with Chinese decorations on the outside and various conference rooms all in a different theme) the 23rd auction of Kees Monen's Scriporama/First Dutch was held. There was reasonable interest with about 30 room-bidders. The catalogue contained a lot of low priced material with not much surprises (except for a unique collection Bulgaria (was sold at it's startprice of EUR 5000,--), containing about 720 pieces and a loan from 1577 (remained unsold at a startprice of EUR 15000)). But nevertheless it was quite a succesfyull auction, before the break around 90% was sold, after the break that percentage dipped only a bit totalling a selling percentage of around 85%. As usual, Kees also donated a couple of pieces for a small charity auction with a startprice of EUR 1,-- almost every lot sold for EUR 10,-- or more, a total of over EUR 300,-- has been gathered for the benefit of "Clini Clowns" Kees divides his material on a geographical basis. So on that same basis I will run through some remarkable results. Belgium: A Compagnie d'assurances Maritime et d'Incendie de L'Escaut made EUR 270,--. Bulgaria: A nice ISKR made EUR 100,--. China: Was extremely well bid... almost all lots sold. Germany: 5% bond from 1714 went for EUR 475,--. 16th till 18th century: Sold hardly, the highlight (Eigendomsbewijs van 50 guldens in de betaling door de Staten van Sloldaten, gelegerd in Brabant) did not sell at Eur 15000,--. Government Loans: A 3.5% Schuldbrief worth 200 "Guldens" from 1806 was well bid-up at EUR 575 from it's start from EUR 250. Warrants & Falcons: Were extremely good bid, 100% sold at twice or more from the startprice, an Akzo warrant (1986 for 5000 warrants) went at EUR 44, from EUR 12 start-price. After the auction there was a small collector's meeting, which was reasonable as well. A lot of pieces changed hands. So all on all, it was a succesfull auction with a good percentage sold (85%), that shall not be seen in Europe soon again. |
