On the 1st of November about 70 collectors gathered in the old town hall of Culemborg Of which 50% came for the papermoney lots only. All on all it was a solid auction with reasonable results. Especially papermoney sold extremely well with a selling-percentage of around 99%. The percentage of scripophily was pretty much lower at around 64%, but still well above teh European average, not all groups sold good. Some remarkable results:
Cars and transport: only a specimen of "Spijker" automobielfabrieken Trompenburg made a good price: EUR 260, up from EUR 200,--. Banking & Finance: 2 Amsterdamsche Bank pieces made EUR 340 each, well up from its start at EUR 140. Papermoney: More remarkable results, but a note of HFL 300,-- made EUR 26000 way higher than its startprice EUR 1500. Another remarkable thing was a rude mistake from the auctioneer: 1 lot was hammered at 7000, but the auctioneer said he hammered 7500 instead, all roombidders were absolutely sure that EUR 7000 was the hammerprice. The auctioneer therefore, decided to recall the lot and hammer it all over again, the second time the lot only brought 3700, that can be considered as a pitty for the seller. Brewery: all sold including an original wall-plate from brewery "De Hooiberg" (now part of Heineken) Cities sold hardly. Famous autographs: sold very, very bad, only 2 Rothschilds sold and 1 Sarphati, the remaining 21 lots remained all unsold. 16-18th century sold quite good: a VOC fetched EUR 18000, A piece from the WIC made EUR 5000, a loan from Hope & Compagnie sold at 3000, another loan from the same company sold for 16500 and there was another loan from that company that changed hands for: EUR10500. In the mining area there also was good interest, a Kux-schein from Gewerkschaft Eitel Fritz was well bid up (EUR 170) from its start (EUR 20). Railroads and Tramways sold very poorly with only a couple of lots sold.
